"Cultivating and preserving Lugana in the Lugana land"

The climate

An area characterized by a very particular microclimate, positively influenced by the temperate breezes of the lake and the surrounding mountains, a sort of perfect "climatic cradle" thanks to the scarce temperature variations between day and night but also, between winter and the summer.

These temperatures and weather conditions, in some ways similar to those of the Mediterranean, they allow to grow vines and olive trees in an optimal way, giving typical and unique qualitative aspects.

The clayey soil

The Clay Soil is certainly one of the distinctive features of this appellation. Composed of layered clays of morainic origin and of sedimentary nature, mainly calcareous, rich in mineral salts but also hard and difficult to work when there is drought and, soft and muddy in the rain.

A land of its own and typical of these areas, obtained from a historical-natural process, due to past glaciations, the presence of water and the unique climate that formed them. These give body, warmth, acidity and flavor to the grapes, creating a structural backbone in the wine with vigorous and clear aromas between almond and citrus. The link with the earth, with its fundamental base, is unique in its kind.

The subsoil

An integral part of this territory are the anthropogenic resources and the shared cultural heritage of this area. The Lugana territory has its own distinctive character, the result of history, traditions, knowledge, human memories but also of its own natural factors that have contributed to creating its unique identity.

The denomination takes its name from the ancient "Selva Lucana", so called by the Romans when they placed their settlements in the area, between the second and first centuries BC, with the meaning of "Sacred Wood". Lugana has always been a place of passage and connection, a succession of populations, illustrious personalities, but also a site of ancient agricultural and wine-growing origin. Today you can admire the naturalistic, historical and artistic value of this territory, exploring its villages, monuments, churches, ancient villas, walking in the vineyards and tasting Lugana, discovering its roots, its flavors, its inhabitants and his stories, thus fully experiencing this magnificent and unique territory.
